CRPF Sports Quota Recruitment 2026: 521 Vacancies for Meritorious Sportspersons

For many athletes, the difficult part is not only training and competing. It is also understanding what can come next after years of practice, competitions and medals.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has now opened a sports quota recruitment opportunity for meritorious sportspersons. The 2026 recruitment covers 521 posts of Head Constable (General Duty) and Constable (General Duty).

If you are an athlete, coach or parent trying to understand sports-related government career opportunities, this notification is worth going through carefully before applying.

What is the CRPF Sports Quota 2026 recruitment?

CRPF has invited online applications from eligible Indian male and female sportspersons for recruitment under Sports Quota-2026.

There are 521 vacancies in total:

• Head Constable (GD): 182 posts

– Male: 150

– Female: 32

• Constable (GD): 339 posts

– Male: 258

– Female: 81

The notification states that the vacancies are tentative and may increase or decrease during the recruitment process.

The posts are Group C, Non-Gazetted and Non-Ministerial positions. The notification also states that the posts carry all-India liability, meaning selected candidates may be required to serve anywhere in India or abroad.

Salary and pay level

The pay scales mentioned in the notification are:

Head Constable (General Duty)

Pay Matrix Level 4

₹25,500 – ₹81,100

Constable (General Duty)

Pay Matrix Level 3

₹21,700 – ₹69,100

The notification also mentions Dearness Allowance, HRA and other allowances as admissible in CRPF from time to time under government orders.

Which sports are included?

The recruitment covers 22 sports disciplines. They include:

Aquatics (Swimming), Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Body Building, Boxing, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Karate, Shooting, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Water Sports, Weightlifting, Wushu, Wrestling and Yoga (Yogasana).

The discipline-wise vacancy distribution is given in the detailed CRPF notification. Athletes should check the exact event/category applicable to their sport rather than assuming that participation in a listed sport automatically makes them eligible.

Who can apply?

The recruitment has separate educational requirements for Head Constable and Constable posts.

For Head Constable (GD), the basic educational qualification is 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised Board/University recognised by the Central or State Government, subject to the conditions in the notification.

For Constable (GD), the basic educational qualification is Matriculation or its equivalent from a recognised board.

For both posts, the general age limit is 18 to 23 years as on 1 August 2026, with age relaxation available under the relevant rules.

The notification gives specific sports achievement requirements as well. These include categories such as recognised international representation, qualifying performances in National Games or Championships, Inter-University competitions and specified Junior National-level achievements.

This is an important point: being an athlete or simply having a sports certificate does not by itself mean that a candidate is eligible. The exact competition, position, medal, level and certificate requirements mentioned in the notification have to be checked.

Which sports achievements are considered?

According to the selection section of the notification, players who represented or won medals in the specified qualifying competitions during the period from 30 September 2024 to 30 September 2026 are considered for this recruitment, subject to the other eligibility conditions.

The detailed notification contains the exact sports qualification criteria for the two posts. Candidates should therefore check their highest eligible achievement and the required supporting certificate before submitting an application.

Physical standards

Candidates also have to satisfy the physical standards prescribed by CRPF.

The notification specifies standards relating to height, chest and weight, along with applicable relaxations for eligible categories.

For example, the general height standard mentioned is 170 cm for male candidates and 157 cm for female candidates, subject to the relaxations listed in the notification. Male candidates are also required to meet the prescribed chest measurement and expansion requirements.

Because physical standards can vary based on category and applicable relaxation, candidates should check the relevant section of the official notification rather than relying only on a general number.

How will the selection happen?

The recruitment process includes several stages.

Candidates can expect:

1. Identity and biometric verification

2. Documentation

3. Physical Standard Test (PST)

4. Sports Trial Test

5. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)

6. Review Medical Examination (RME), wherever applicable

The sports trial is a qualifying stage. The notification makes it clear that the sports trial does not carry marks for merit in the same way as the sports achievement assessment. Candidates should therefore pay close attention to the certificate and achievement requirements used for determining merit.

The online application window is scheduled as follows:

Application starts: 12 October 2026 at 9:00 AM

Last date to apply and pay the online fee: 11 November 2026 at 11:59 PM

Correction/modification window: 12 November 2026 to 14 November 2026

Applications must be submitted online through the official CRPF recruitment website.

Application fee

Male candidates belonging to the UR, OBC and EWS categories applying for the Head Constable (GD) or Constable (GD) Sports Quota posts have to pay an application fee of ₹100.

The notification states that female candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST and Ex-servicemen categories are exempt from the fee.

What should athletes check before applying?

Before opening the application form, keep your documents ready and compare your details with the notification.

In particular, check:

• Your date of birth and age eligibility

• Educational qualification

• Sports discipline and event

• Competition level

• Medal/position or participation requirement applicable to you

• Date of the sports achievement

• Valid sports certificate

• Category and applicable relaxation, if any

CRPF specifically states that the relevant sports certificate/document supporting the highest medal, position or highest level of participation has to be uploaded as required. An incomplete or unsupported application can create problems during scrutiny.

A sports certificate can be more than a certificate

For an athlete, a medal or sports achievement is usually the result of years of early mornings, travel, training, injuries, competitions and sacrifices.

But the value of that achievement does not stop at the medal ceremony.

Government departments, universities, academies and other organisations periodically announce opportunities where sporting achievements can become part of a career pathway. The important part is knowing where those opportunities are, understanding the eligibility conditions and applying correctly.

The CRPF Sports Quota 2026 notification is one such opportunity. But athletes should not apply simply because they saw a post saying “521 vacancies.” The details matter.
